Progress — But We Need You to Keep Calling

SB361 has passed the Agriculture Committee.

Let’s finish what we started!

Now the bill moves to the House Rules Committee, which determines whether the bill reaches the House floor for a vote.

SB361 would establish basic statewide standards for companion dogs kept outdoors, including:

• Proper shelter
• Adequate food and clean water
• Humane outdoor care standards
• Ending the use of heavy chains and harmful choke or pinch collars

Your calls made a difference in the Senate. They can make the difference again.

Take Action Today

1. Contact members of the House Agriculture and Forestry Committee and ask them to support SB361 and move the bill forward.

2. You should also call your own House Representative and ask them to encourage the Agriculture Committee to advance SB361.

3. If the bill advances, it will then go to the House Rules Committee. Contact them and state that you want to see SB361 move forward.

4. Be respectful. You may let them know if their vote will impact your future support but do so respectfully.

A short phone call is most effective, but emails help too.

Tell them you support SB361 and humane standards for outdoor dogs in Alabama.

Best Practices

When contacting legislators, include your name and address. Lawmakers want to hear from their constituents.

Use the “Find Your Representative” link below to identify who represents you.

WHAT TO SAY WHEN YOU CALL:
"Hi, my name is [your name], and I'm a constituent from [your city]. I'm calling to ask Representative [name] to support SB361. It passed the Alabama Senate almost unanimously. I'd like to ask the Representative to support it in the committee, and when it comes to the floor for a vote. IN YOUR OWN WORDS TELL THEM WHY - Thank you."

If you are calling them and do not live in their district, still call and email because they are on a committee that impacts you!

EMAIL SUBJECT LINE: Please Support SB361
Write an email and tell them why you expect their support in your own words. Be respectful. You may let them know if their vote will impact your future support but do so respectfully.

Just a few calls from constituents can influence how legislators vote — your voice truly matters.

be the voice when they need it most
